Twenty two gas tanks at a railroad gas charging station exploded causing eight confirmed deaths with about ten missing and fires threatening nearby storage. Police evacuated residents within a mile as superintendent Wells ordered waste pipes opened to vent gas and prevent further blasts.
A World War II era report describes Allied bombardment targets at Port Arthur including an arsenal and magazine destroyed in action. The dispatch notes damage to Japanese stores and fortifications as American forces press further on the Pacific front.
Telegram from Moji reports another Russian arsenal at Port Arthur destroyed by Japanese fire after two hundred shells. Japanese widen trenches and advance guns. Russians counter with hand grenades in trench attacks. In St Petersburg papers praise Stoessel and the garrison and promote a national subscription for families of the killed and wounded defenders. an appeal to Methodists to aid an endowment fund to save the property.
A bronze statue of Frederick the Great will be unveiled at the Army War College esplanade with a grand military demonstration. Baroness von Sternburg will do the honors, with President Roosevelt, the German ambassador, and others delivering addresses. A large line of dignitaries is expected on site.

Washington November 18 The Pan ama Canal Commission reports no alarm after Isthmus disturbances and marine landings. The commission members have been fully advised and received a cable from General Davis stating the canal zone is now quiet.

Montreal Nov. 18 Lord Minto retiring governor general of Canada sails today for England. His successor Lord Grey is expected to arrive here about the middle of next month.

Auburn Calif Nov 18 coroner jury verdict charges Adolph J Weber with murdering his father and mother and sister Bertha by shooting and beating his brother Chester with a blunt instrument. The Weber family except Adolph were found dead and the house set on fire to hide the crime. Motive unknown.
Pine Bluff Arkansas hosts about 1000 Baptists for the Arkansas Baptist State convention led by ex Governor J P Eagle. The gathering stays three days and focuses mainly on education for the denomination.
Washington November 18. Secretary Shaw announces a 25 percent call on national banks holding government deposits with 10 percent due by January 15 and 15 percent by March 15. He estimates bringing about 25 million dollars into the treasury.

The Central Vermont Railway freight steamer Mohawk was burned at Horton's Point Long Island. The crew of 22 people was rescued by the Fall River Line steamship Boston and taken to Fall River Massachusetts. Six men from the Philadelphia schooner Emily B Naylor were saved by the steamer Granada after spending eighteen hours adrift in an open boat, 300 miles from Bermuda. The Emily B Naylor was abandoned following a hurricane that struck the coast last Sunday night, leaving the crew with little time for provisions.
In Williamsburg Kentucky on November 18 Geo Curd and Emma Durham were killed and Thomas Curd fatally wounded near Cumberland Falls. The Curd brothers owned land and had run-ins with squatters. They were fired upon as they passed a cabin where Emma Durham lived. Thomas crawled home two miles. George lay dead at the scene. The Durham woman likely was killed to stop her from identifying the suspects.
Arrangements are nearing completion for the reception and entertainment of hundreds of women who will attend the national convention of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union in Philadelphia the week after next. Leaders from every section of the United States and Canada are expected to attend a notably large gathering.
