Plan to Move 2 Million From Relief To Full Time Jobs

Washington officials outlined a four month federal program to shift 2,000,000 men from work relief to full time 30 hour week jobs. Funds of 400 million dollars are allotted to Harry Hopkins for civil works projects aimed at creating about 4,000,000 jobs, with federal and state roles defined and wages at federal minimums. President Roosevelt addressed 500 mayors and officials, promising rapid implementation starting today.

Cold Wave Grips Large Areas as Death Toll Rises

Safford and Chandler Visit Roswell for Party Matters

State Republican Chairman Ed Safford of Santa Fe and ex Congressman Walter M. Chandler of Albuquerque toured Roswell yesterday. Mrs. Luther Adams, married two months, asks police to locate her 32 year old husband who vanished from an auto camp in Albuquerque on Wednesday. She says he left to pick up his brother Harold in a truck and returned none. He carried about 200 dollars. the couple married in Denver two months ago and were headed to Tucson with Harold.

Red Cross Roll Call Nears County Goal By Noon

Will C Lawrence, chairman of the Red Cross Roll Call in Chaves county, said about 400 memberships had been secured by noon. The county goal stands at 400, and Lawrence expresses hope of reaching it. The appeal continues tomorrow and Saturday.

Climax Nears in Hart Kidnapping Case

Hangs Himself in El Paso Hotel Room

Jesus Meave, 43, a Salt Lake City railroad laborer, hanged himself in his hotel room bath. Found by his wife while the couple was en route to Metanza Mexico. Coroner reports 3300 cash and a 2009 cashier’s check found on the deceased.

Dillinger Escapes Net In Indiana Bandea

Bandit leader John Dillinger evaded a police net in Indiana after a high speed pursuit through Chicago. Bullets pierced his car through a porthole despite a machine gun blaze as officers retreated amid bullet-proof glass. Fearful European voyage ends in 27 lost Saxilby tragedy

Portales Normal Opened After Long Delays
