Solar powered radio network to link 485 rural stations
Southwest Communications plans a $100 000 solar powered system atop Capitan Mountain to serve 485 radios across Chaves and Lincoln counties. The plan partners with Transwestern Pipe Line the Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Land Management. panels from Solar Energy Systems will replace diesel in powering the links. The project aims to begin operation in about two weeks marking one of the nation’s largest solar radio networks.
