Opening of Deer Season Results in Five Deaths

Five hunting fatalities reported during the northern New Mexico deer season weekend. Causes include two gunshots, two heart attacks, and exposure. Bodies found near Santa Fe National Forest in French Mesa. missing hunter Tom E. Jankowski of Albuquerque was located and died of exposure. Louis G. Tapia, 57, of Albuquerque, died of a heart attack while hunting near Pecos north of Las Vegas.

Hunter Deaths and Shooting Victims Reported in New Mexico

Deputy Montano said witnesses saw Tapia shoot and tag a deer and then attempt to drag it up a hill where he died. Another hunter, Sedoin Wilson, 56, died of a heart attack near Cuba after arriving at a hunting area. Victims include Johnny Romo, 13, Albuquerque, shot by a discharged 22 rifle during transfer from a pickup to the bed, and Gillie Sedillo, 46, Los Lunas, shot near Priest Canyon northwest of Mountainair. Sedillo’s shooting is under investigation.

Roswell Man Will Case Settled by State Supreme Court

The New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed a Chaves County District Court ruling on the James F. Moore will from 1969. The suit concerned a residuary bequest to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children in Dallas and a named gift to First Presbyterian Church in Roswell. The higher court upheld the trial decision granting the residuary to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children in Dallas.
