State health exchange glitches threaten New Mexico enrollment goal

New Mexico lawmakers heard that federal health insurance marketplace computer troubles hinder enrollment. Jason Sandel, on the state board, said the delay jeopardizes the aim of 84 000 people insured in the first year as the state runs a small business exchange while relying on the federal system for individuals. He noted 925 firms began signup and 294 completed enrollment.

Roswell High Hosts Veterans Day Assembly

Students and staff at Roswell High School gathered for a Veterans Day assembly to honor veterans from Army Navy Air Force Marines and Coast Guard. Principal Ruben Bolanos thanked the community for sacrifices made by servicemembers as songs of each branch echoed through the auditorium.

Retiree health program solvency plan pitched

Santa Fe residents and state and local workers would contribute about 90 million dollars annually to shore up the Retiree Health Care Authority program. Executive director Mark Tyndall said the plan aims to strengthen health coverage for retired public employees under a legislative study committee endorsement.

Roswell Man Killed in Two Vehicle Highway 285 Crash

Chad Jessup 37 died after his 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle hit a 2000 Ford truck on Highway 285 near mile post 100. Police say the motorcycle was northbound when the truck pulled from Darby Road and crossed the median. The crash remains under investigation with an autopsy pending. Jessup was a Guerreros Riders member, survived by a wife and two children.

Land Office audit nets 1.5 million in royalties

Santa Fe The State Land Office reports 1.5 million dollars in royalties from oil and natural gas production in southeastern New Mexico. Ray Powell said the payments from Concho Oil and Gas pertain to state trust land in Eddy County since 2010, with Concho Resources Inc. of Midland, Texas linked to the affiliate.

New Mexico considers minimum retirement age for lawmakers

A legislative study panel endorsed Sen. Jacob Candelaria's proposal to set a 55 year minimum before pension benefits begin for future lawmakers. The measure would not affect members with five or more years of service, and could impact about a quarter of current lawmakers.
