Teenager Zamora given life term for murder in open trial

Ronny Zamora, 15, sentenced to life in prison for at least 25 years in the killing of 83 year old Elinor Haggart. Judge Paul Baker rejected psychiatric pleas and Menninger’s view, noting youth rehabilitation options. The trial and sentencing were televised under a Florida Supreme Court experiment. Darrell Agrella, 15, faces a separate trial on the same charge.

Anaya delays ruling on New Mexico highway panel case

Santa Fe AP. Attorney General Toney Anaya said it may take two more weeks to decide if there is enough evidence to remove New Mexico highway commissioners Jim Denison James Chaney and Paul Rader after Gov. Apodaca asked for charges. Anaya cited travel expense claims use of airplanes and open meeting issues as grounds for possible action. He said a decision will come within the next two weeks.

Gunman in Charity Hospital Rampage Subdued After Grab for Gun

New Orleans police say Carlos Poree attempted to seize a officer’s firearm in a hospital corridor during a rampage that wounded 10 people. One shot was fired but no injuries occurred. Poree, 35, a former IRS auditor, was hospitalized under guard after shooting Diane Poree and her father, paralyzing both, then fatally wounding or injuring eight bystanders. He faces multiple charges including 10 counts of attempted murder and armed robbery.

Car theft alleged as suspect wounds officer in Bourbon Street incident

Police report says Poree allegedly stopped his car on Bourbon Street then attacked an officer during a scuffle at the city jail, suffering eye injuries and facial cuts. Police Sgt. Buonagura said the suspect attacked an officer and his face hit the floor but was not beaten. Three tourists were wounded in a nearby Bourbon Street park incident linked to the same man.

The memo directing downtime of publishing downgrades is rescinded and the public may access such information. Stardust Supper Club may face re inspection for upgrade.
