Seven Blocks Added to Roswell Historic District Boundary 1997
The Historical Society for Southeast New Mexico secured a State Historic Preservation Division grant to expand the Roswell Downtown Historic District. Seven blocks on the northern boundary along Eighth Street were added, with 30 contributing houses and a new pocket park on Pennsylvania Avenue. The Iron Cross landmark and WWII German POW work are noted, and lists of eligible properties for plaques include multiple addresses on North Richardson, North Pennsylvania, North Kentucky Avenues, and two downtown streets. Peggy Stokes led the research. D. D. Cleveland did photography. Elvis Fleming founded the archival department in 1976.
