Fire Destroys Fifteen Bales of Cotton at AAGA Mill

Fifteen bales of cotton on the AAGA Mill grounds north of Artesia were destroyed by fire early today. The cause is unknown and the loss value was not disclosed. Voters in Chaves County Face 24 Contested Races Today

Voters in Roswell and surrounding areas head to 38 precincts for the 1970 general election with 24 of 31 races at stake. Bottled Messages Reach Vacation Beaches From Sewage

Bottles released from the Miami Beach outlet have carried postcards to Gov. Claude Kirk, tracing sewage flow as flotillas drift 25 to 40 miles to Broward and Palm Beach beaches. Eco-Commando Force 70 says the test shows sewage moves with currents. Coast Guard sighted bottles near Fort Lauderdale.

Defense reorganization plan discussed for area citizens

A 7 30 p m discussion on a blue ribbon panel report proposing a DoD reorganization will be hosted at the Adult Education Center RIAC. Marvin Price, ex Joint Chiefs staff, will report. Sponsors are Roswell Army Reserve School and Industrial College of the Armed Forces with Bud Wortman and Maj. Jack Ahlen among attendees. The report was submitted to the President and Defense Department on July 1, 1970.

Allende Takes Chile Presidency Amid Marxist Victory

Dr. Salvador Allende, a Marxist Socialist, assumed the Chilean presidency in a ceremony before 200 congressmen and 70 foreign governments. He will head a 15 member cabinet with three Communists and has won a six year term after concessions to safeguard civil liberties. His Popular Unity coalition outlined a festive program and a televised address to nine million Chileans.
