Girl Burned In Fire At 614 East Bland

An 18 year old girl sustained burns to her arms and face when an oil stove was lit after a leak caused a blaze at 614 East Bland. The fire department extinguished the flames and the house suffered no damage.

Martin Boswell Graduates as Aviation Cadet at Kelly Field

Martin Boswell of Boswell and Larry E Pinson of Dexter were in the aviation cadet class that graduated at Kelly Field on Saturday. An auto accident at 13th and Main involved a car driven by Wilson Wheeler and a truck driven by Sam Hall. Wheeler’s car moved 60 feet and Hall’s truck 120 feet from the impact. No injuries but both vehicles were damaged.

Spec Stewart In Finals Mexico Golf Championship

Wilfred Wehrle and dark-horse Verne Stewart reached the finals of the Mexican amateur golf championship in Mexico City. Stewart defeated Marvin Ward one up in the quarter finals and then beat Richard Nants 5 and 4 in the semi. Wehrle beat Carlos Belmonte 7 and 6 in the quarter and edged Ed White 2-1 in the semifinal to set the title match. Ward rallied on the back nine but missed a 50 foot putt on 18 to halve the match.
