Highway Department seeks $300000 federal advance
Santa Fe November 2 The state highway department asked the Federal Bureau of Public Roads for a 300000 advance from New Mexico's six million dollar allotment. A similar early advance of 300000 was made about two months ago. Funds are for engineering costs and contractor work as part of the federal allotment.

Much Cotton Ginned In The Valley This Year
In Chaves and Eddy counties 30,767 bales of cotton have been ginned by October 31, more than the 12,460 on the same date last year due to earlier harvest. Of the total 11,500 bales were in Chaves and 19,267 in Eddy. Farmers receive about 10 a ton for cottonseed and 10 cents a pound for cottonseed oil, up from prior years.

Santa Fe November 2 AP Appeals from valuations set on corporations are scheduled by the state tax commission up to November 15. Several appeals will be heard this week. Byron O Beall chief tax commissioner said fewer appeals were made this year. Railroads D and R G IW Texas Pacific and Santa Fe Northwestern appealed along with mining and oil and gas firms. Gallup New Mexico November 2 AP Pickets gathered around bonfires to keep warm as non striking workers passed by in trucks en route to work. About 200 pickets reported no violence. Mine operators cited 309 workers at work and normal forces at Allison and Gallup Southwestern mines where settlements were reached. Luis Ruiz wounded Monday in Black Diamond Canyon reportedly recovering. Brig Gen Osborne Wood returned to the strike zone and joined the morning picket line.
