Judge rules in favor of Artesia in 1972 strike case

Federal Judge Howard Bratton ruled for the City of Artesia in a civil suit filed by 14 former city employees who went on strike in 1972 over union recognition with United Steel Workers. He found no prestrike racial discrimination complaints and limited back pay or seniority issues. Testimony began Tuesday.

Dairy campaign donations lead to jail terms for two leaders

Two former heads of Associated Milk Producers, Harold S. Nelson and David L. Parr, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge George L. Hart Jr. to three years in jail with four months to serve and $10,000 fines each for illegal corporate campaign contributions. Sentences start November 8 at the Montgomery federal prison. Nelson, from San Antonio, was AMPI general manager. Parr, from Little Rock, was his top assistant.
