Economy slows as leading indicators dip in April
The Commerce Department index of eight business categories fell six tenths of a percent in April to 161.5 from the 1967 base. Officials caution one month does not define trends, but the data signals a slowing economy after rapid first-quarter growth of about 8 percent as administrations aim for roughly 4 percent. Six of eight components declined, two rose.
