Parents and friends praised the Berrendo Middle School pageant This Is My Country produced by the History and Music Departments under Ruth Browning and Joyce Wells. Students performed scenes of American heritage and holidays with authentic costumes a Paul Revere life play and chorus songs.
Mrs. Margaret Nelson, longtime head of the Roswell High business department, will retire at the end of the school year and relocate to a 100 year old farm house in Kearney Missouri. She began teaching at RHS in 1955 and helped establish business English and business math courses.
Mesa's sixth grade chorus and Boys Glee Club performed a varied repertoire with multiple accompanists. Eighth graders sang Aquarius and Exodus as video taping occurred. The Mesa band and orchestra featured the Symphonette with Bach Purcell and Do Re Mi, plus Big Gold Band pieces Land of Liberty and Windy under Paula Reed and Clyde Peterson.
Roswell High School English teacher Mrs Gladys Harris plans to retire after 24 years. She recalls starting the journalism program with a mimeographed paper funded by selling Cokes at games. Harris taught journalism first at Roswell High and previously taught in Wyoming Nebraska and a stint on a South Dakota Indian Reservation.
The Roswell High School choral program closes its year with two performances this week. The Senior Choir sings at commencement tonight while the combined Advanced Mixed choirs performed at Baccalaureate Sunday. The group began with festival work, Homecoming activities, All-State auditions, Christmas and Festival concerts, district events, an album release, and a final Spring Sing.
Miss Shelly Graves of Dexter Rt. 1 was named top home economics student at Roswell High School. She received the Sterling Silver Homemaking Award for 1969 at the RHS awards assembly on May 20, presented by Mrs. Sarah Lee Beamer.
Portales special report notes Eastern New Mexico University Library will mark a milestone at tonight's combined baccalaureate and commencement exercises. Pearce St Grove will present Dr. Charles Meister with the 200000th volume, a historic addition since the library opened in January 1953 after occupying part of the Administration Building.
Roswell High junior Charles Smith will edit the 1969 70 El Coyote yearbook. Truett Worley announced David N Brown as assistant editor. Staff includes: sports Fred Voorhees Kay Sewell photographers Wes Holloway Kim Talbott. editors Eddie Hinderer Carolyn Allen Karla Johnson Amy Mark roles. Barbara Moore in charge of faculty administration. Belinda Cox art. typists Sofia Romero Janie Hammons Emma Lechler. copy editor Margaret Bunton. Terry Lindsay Susan Roberts unnamed assignments pending.
The Choral Department at Roswell High School invites students to a six week summer music program from June 9 to July 18. Courses include beginning and advanced theory, voice lessons, and multiple choir options with schedules and prices listed. Applications and fees due by June 6 with office hours June 2.
