ROTC DAY AWARDS HONOR CADETS AT NMIM NORTH GROUNDS
Fifty two cadets received sixty two awards at the annual ROTC Day ceremony held at the New Mexico Military Institute north parade grounds. Trophies and medals went to cadets from Roswell El Paso Santa Fe and other cities for neatness leadership rifle marksman and academic proficiency.

Nine Die in Bien Hoa Helicopter Collision and Chu Lai Attack
Two U.S. Army helicopters collided near Bien Hoa Air Base killing nine Americans and injuring two. The same dawn near Chu Lai six miles west of the beachhead a Marine was killed in a grenade fight as Viet Cong and U.S. Marines clashed. ten Marines were wounded. Six Viet Cong bodies were recovered and a guerrilla was captured.

Space Dummies Explode After Atlas ICBM Flight
An Atlas ICBM rocket carrying a space mission dummy exploded two minutes after launch off Vandenberg AFB California at 7 55 p m. The wreckage plunged into the sea and the cause was not yet determined. The dummy carried radiation measuring instruments for future manned orbital research.

Roswell Plans Three Exploratory Slim Wells
Roswell will drill three six inch exploratory wells in early next week to supplement three salty city wells. Van R Turner Drilling Co of Albuquerque won the contract. One well will be at the Little League ballpark between Virginia and Main, another near the airport, and the third near South Park Cemetery. If fresh water is found in the first well, the Roswell Museum well will be abandoned and the other two will proceed. If not, the loss is small due to tiny hole costs, per City Manager Hoyt McMinn.
