Albuquerque report notes feminist leader Hannah Best says a woman could run for governor in 1978 but primary is June 4. Local groups plan Memorial Day services in three cemeteries

Memorial Day services are planned Monday at South Park and Memory Lawn in Roswell and Hagerman Cemetery. Leaders include Leo Herman of the American Legion Larry Hess of the DAV and Frank Barnes of the VFW. Roswell events begin at 11 a.m. with Legion and Auxiliary participation and flag placements at 7 a.m. Unknown Soldier grave honored. Hagerman services start at 9 a.m. led by the American Legion Auxiliary at the War Memorial.

Final Democratic Rally Draws 375 in Chaves County

Democratic rally at the National Guard Armory drew about 375 attendees in Roswell. U S Rep Harold Runnels urged unity and discussed Watergate while candidates for county and state offices spoke and sought support before the June 4 primary.

Airman charged in Alamogordo shooting death

An airman stationed at Holloman Air Force Base was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Everett Griewahn an 18 year old resident of Alamogordo. Michael Gene Anderson 18 was ordered held on $10 000 bond by Municipal Judge Nelson Naylor.
