Gallup Policeman Freed Under Bond

Edward Bowman a 47 year old former Gallup policeman was freed on $1 000 bond after arraignment on two counts voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon in the death of Danny Ford. Ford was found shot three times in his bed the shooting reported by Bowmans wife Betty Bowman who was wounded in the hand and hip. Police chief Manuel Gonzales quoted Bowman saying he saw his wifes car at Ford s residence and entered the house.

Contract Awarded For Gallup Dormitory Build

A $250000 contract for a dormitory to house about 300 Indian children was awarded by the General Services Administration to the Biro Crop of Gallup for a one story cinder block building to serve Gallup schools next fall.

Education Advisory Panel Study Idea Named In Santa Fe

A 1 member committee to study forming a citizens advisory panel was named by the New Mexico State Education Department. The Aug. 16 meeting includes State School Supt. Tom Wiley and a list of candidates from both parties and various districts. Henry Toy Jr of the National Citizens Commission for the Public Schools spoke, urging broadened community involvement to ensure equality of opportunity in education.

Eight Accidents Reported in City

Eight accidents occurred in the city yesterday and this morning. About 15 vehicles and a bicycle were involved with a head injury to a man. Lawrence L. Nelson 37 suffered a forehead cut in a collision with Mary Mills 21 at East Fifth Street and North Garden Avenue at 1 29 p m. Nelson treated by a doctor and not believed to be critically injured.
