Skunk Demonstrates Warnings and Oxidation Tales

A television pioneer Dr. George Fischbeck used a live skunk to illustrate three warnings before actions and three oxidation speeds with a rusty pad, a match and a firecracker, before the skunk released after the blast. Also notes on Roswell incidents and academic milestones.

Woolnough to address NMMI cadets at graduation

Lt. Gen. James K. Woolnough deputy chief of staff personnel Department of the Army will give the commencement address at New Mexico Military Institute. The ceremony begins 8 30 a m Sunday at Municipal Stadium as Woolnough, a 1932 West Point graduate, recounts a long career including World War I World War II and Korean War service and key commands.

Roswell Council Approves City Budget of 2.59 Million

Roswell City Council approved a 2.585 million dollar budget for the next fiscal year with 1.579 million for the general fund and 1.0058 million from water and sewer charges. Water debt service includes bonds of 3 million issued and 3.6 million planned for fall. Recreation Commission budget stands at 42,150, down from 52,475. cigarette tax reductions noted. A supplemental budget on police, fire, and WAFB transfer will be prepared in summer. A budget hearing is set for June 9 at 1 p.m. with state officials to approve or disapprove.

FFA Will Honor Chapter Advisor At Roswell Open House

The Roswell Chapter of Future Farmers of America will honor advisor Bradley Houston at an open house Friday from 7 30 to 9 30 p m in Roswell High School agriculture building. Houston recently resigned to join New Mexico State University and will move to Las Cruces soon. Former students and friends are invited.

Government Restores Haying Grazing on New Mexico Cropland

The Agriculture Department told New Mexico lawmakers that grazing and haying rights have been restored on cropland in Chaves Curry McKinley Roosevelt and Socorro counties to aid drought hit areas. Fires Probed in Chama Area Burnings

State Police Chief Joe Black said about six men are investigating fires in the Chama area, with no set pattern and a belief the work is by fewer than six. Eight haystacks and several farm buildings were burned, causing over $30,000 in damage, amid nights of school board meetings or bingo. Governor Cargo and Sheriff Naranjo discussed the situation.

Vocational-Technical Head Named for Roswell Campus

Rolland W. Shipe, named director of the new Vocational-Technical Division at Eastern New Mexico University Roswell, will begin July 10. He comes from Las Cruces where he led Mayfield High School since 1965 and has held Grants and Las Vegas posts.

Cargo to Meet on Milton successor to Highway post

Gov. David Cargo planned to meet the Highway Commission to discuss appointing a Milton replacement after Gen. Hugh Milton of Las Cruces resigned. Milton is in a White Sands hospital for a checkup, and Sudderth said no replacement will be discussed at the meeting.
