Teen-Age Road-eo Set for May 29 in Roswell
Teen drivers under 20 will compete next Sunday at the Jaycees First Annual Teen-Age Road-eo in the Furr Food parking lot. Events include driving between rubber balls, parallel parking, serpentine drills, and smooth stops with a preceding license-style written quiz. The Roswell winner advances to the state contest in Silver City June 3 and 4, then nationals in Washington, D C July 25–29 for a chance at 3000 in scholarships.

Roswell firemen rushed to Second and Union at 6 30 last night but found no blaze. A stuck emergency brake on a 1948 De Soto owned by H L Green triggered the call. Truck 3 returned to station at 6 40.

Springer Escapee Surrenders to Police Chief
Joe Sedillo 18 of Roswell, last of ten boys who fled May 4 from the New Mexico Industrial School, turned himself in to Police Chief Tommy Thompson yesterday. Sedillo was jailed at 2 pm after authorities had watched for him. a guard Frank Buttram was beaten during the escape. Six of the escapees were captured the next day, four remained at large.

Streaking into Los Angeles for supper a National Guard pilot completed a sunrise-to-sunset coast to coast flight. 1st Lt. John M. Conroy flew an F86A Sabre Jet nicknamed the California Boomerang, logged 5,085 miles at an average 445 mph in 11 hours 26 minutes, and beat the east to west record. He started in Albuquerque after dawn and finished in Los Angeles before official sunset, despite a leaking oxygen valve scare.
