Approximately 100 young citizens attended a Citizenship Day dinner at Ingalls Memorial Home hosted by the American Legion Elks Club and Roswell civic groups. Wayne Drysdale chaired, with Mayor Thomas Hall Judge James McGhee and Mrs. C E Mason as speakers. An Akin male quartet performed God Bless America and Father Christian gave the invocation. An informal dance followed with Coca Colas supplied by Pecos Valley Coca Cola Bottling Co. Mayor Hall declared the event worthwhile and planned as an annual affair.

Seventy four Chaves county delegates to the state Democratic convention at Santa Fe were chosen at a county gathering in the district courtroom. Rev Titus to Leave Pastorate in San Bernardino Roswell
Rev A W Wright of San Bernardino and Rev D B Titus of Roswell will exchange pulpits next Sunday. Wright comes from a strong congregation and is well recommended. Titus leaves Thursday for San Bernardino and returns the next week. His final sermon in the local church is on Sunday morning June 2, with a farewell at the union service that evening at the First Methodist Church. Plans for regional folk festivals across New Mexico
Mrs. John C. Martens of Roswell, newly appointed assistant director of the U S Coronado Cuarto Centennial Commission, announced regional folk festivals to be staged in towns throughout New Mexico. A Great Southwest Fiesta is planned with groups from many towns, likely in fall, to celebrate pioneer glories and cultural traditions. The Coronado Entradas will be shown July 17 18 19 requiring over 400 locals in the cast for Roswell’s largest road show yet, with Ms Martens hoping Roswell will lead in cast participation.

Tractor overturns injures Acme man at Shields ranch

Ask 25 000 More Men For the Navy Defense Planning
Washington May 22 Acting with President Roosevelt approval the Senate naval appropriations subcommittee added 478 million dollars to the navy supply bill to provide for a 25 000 increase in enlisted strength. The action follows Roosevelt's request for 31 million dollars for the navy and includes 360 776 000 in cash and 100 000 000 in contract authority. The expanded program brings total navy funds to 1 464 000 000, compared with army 1 823 000 000. Chairman Byrnes said the contract authority would fund 1 735 training planes to accelerate the pilot program as Rear Admiral Towers urged. The navy hopes to raise fliers from 3 000 toward a goal of 16 000, aiming to train 560 monthly a year hence.
