Spaceport hosts launch of student experiments
In southern New Mexico hundreds of students from New Mexico Arizona and Texas gathered at Spaceport America at dawn to watch the SL-5 rocket lift off carrying more than two dozen experiments to a record 73.5 miles high. The mission, sponsored by NASA through its Summer of Innovation Program, featured students testing temperature pressure and radiation sensors and even a cellphone text message test at edge of space. Virgin Galactic officials note the event underscores science excitement as plans continue to develop the spaceport into a learning hub and commercial spaceflight center.
