Obama judicial nominee blocked by GOP first time in Senate
The Senate blocked Goodwin Liu from advancing to a full up or down vote on his nomination to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The 52-43 vote fell short of the 60 needed to end debate, leaving Democrats eight votes shy of confirmation amid GOP opposition over his liberal writings and remarks about Supreme Court justices.
