FBI-led search in Los Angeles targets Patricia Hearst and the remaining SLA members amid six SLA deaths after a weekend shootout and fire. Authorities describe Hearst as armed and dangerous and ready to surrender or defend herself.
Aston praised Hinton Wilmot as the prime mover behind the Medical Center project. He spoke of Wilmot’s unselfish service and stated the hospital is here today because of him. Wilmot’s widow, a son and a daughter attended the unveiling, with a photo on Page 16.
New Mexico faces a likely record primary turnout with rising registration in both parties and high absentee ballot requests. Officials note Albuquerque’s May city election hints at statewide mood while Bernalillo County dominates GOP and Democratic registration shifts.
A U S District Judge Gerhard Gesell questioned dismissing one charge against John D. Ehrlichman in the White House Plumbers matter after an FBI interview note. The decision hinges on whether Ehrlichman referred to the Pentagon Papers probe or the Ellsberg psychiatrist break-in. The case also implicates Colson Liddy Barker Martinez and others in conspiring to violate Dr Louis Fielding's civil rights during the Ellsberg Pentagon Papers era. In New Mexico two people died in separate crashes. Hillary Medlin, 24, of Espanola, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car east of Los Alamos on New Mexico 4. Richard Lacker, 19, of Milburn New Jersey, died two hours later in a Santa Fe hospital after a motorcycle car crash on U S Highway 284 85 near the Nambe bridge.
U S District Judge Barrington Parker declined to dismiss the perjury indictment against Lt. Gov Ed Reinecke of California or move his trial. The three count indictment charges him with lying to the Senate Judiciary Committee about his role in San Diego hosting the Republican National Convention and a $400 000 offer from the Sheraton Corp. for underwriting the event.
