Lew Henson says New Mexico State’s football stadium size is a major drawback to joining a major athletic conference. He advocates a 30 000 seat stadium as the present 16 000 capacity is insufficient to attract top opponents.
In Las Vegas New Mexico District Attorney Tiny Martinez filed charges in magistrate court against three Highlands University regents over the search for a new president. He said he would attend a noon student protest and accused them of declining to name Dr John Aragon of the University of New Mexico as president.
The New Mexico Racing Commission found Emprise Corp and its New Mexico subsidiary Sportservice fit to run concessions at Ruidoso Downs, ending a three month stand. The ruling follows prior scrutiny by Rep. Sam Steiger over Emprise links and a broader pattern of approvals in Arkansas and Florida.
The government reports April living costs up six tenths of one per cent keeping the 20 year inflation high. Food, housing, clothing, transportation and medical care all show gains with services and housing taxes driving much of the rise. The annual rate near six per cent eased slightly from March while grocery prices held steady in April.

Federal BNDD agent credits New Mexico pharmacists and the state Board of Pharmacy for pioneering a coordinated drug education and enforcement program. The initiative, begun March 1 in Albuquerque, has reached about 5,000 people and aims to unify state and federal efforts while expanding community outreach and education.
