Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower arrived home from Walter Reed Army Hospital and entered seclusion after checking out in Washington. He traveled by car to Gettysburg and went directly aside upon arrival.

New Mexico Amigos Start Final Dallas Promotion Tour

The New Mexico Amigos the state's goodwill ambassadors left St. Louis for Dallas to complete the tour. Governor Cargo received a key to St. Louis from Mayor Cervantes, as the group toured the city. Earlier in Chicago they met Mayor Daley and rail official Ernest Marsh among other leaders.

GE to modify 90000 color TV sets over radiation concern

About 90 000 General Electric color television sets will be modified to correct emission of soft radiation in excess of desirable levels. The program covers large screen sets sold between June 1966 and February 1967. The spokesman said emissions not enough to harm viewers and travel toward the floor rather than the viewer. GE service reps will contact owners.

Rev. Dr. Eugene Smathers, 59, was chosen moderator of the United Presbyterian Church, defeating Rev. Dr. William H. Hudnut Jr., to lead the 3.3 million member denomination. A Kentucky born, Tennessee pastor of Calvary Presbyterian at Big Lick, he has long aided poverty areas with health and agricultural projects and emphasizes loving people to win them to faith.

At the New Mexico Annual Conference in Santa Fe Dr. Austin H. Dillon will serve a 17th year as pastor of First Methodist Church Roswell. Rev Wishard F. Lemons returns to Trinity Methodist for a fifth year. Doyle Riley moves to Tatum and Albert Teake will replace him at Fabens. Rush Smith goes to Fabens from Dexter with Ed Trittenback taking Dexter duties. Mark Dorff becomes Ha german pastor while Bob Whitis moves from Dexter to Carlsbad.

Cadet charged after car strikes Roswell girl

James Franklin Pearce a 21 year old New Mexico Military Institute cadet of San Augustine Texas was free on $200 bond on a charge of reckless driving after his car struck Teresa Shannon nine a Roswell girl as she crossed Montana and Seventh Street near her home at 355 p.m. Thursday The girl suffered a possible fractured skull ruptured spleen fractured pelvis and lacerations and remained in critical condition at the Medical Center A hearing on the charge was set for 2 p m today in the Justice of the Peace Court

Interstate Designation Chance Good on U S 70

John McLelland president of the U S 70 Highway Interstate Assn predicts the chances for adding U S 70 to the Interstate system are good. The proposal seeks a Las Cruces to Amarillo extension of Interstate 10 and a defense route. The plan has backing from state and defense officials and supporters expect federal highway funding may rise this year.

300 Cows Loose on Florida Highway Trigger Fatalities

About 300 cows bolted from a market near Lakeland and roamed onto State Road 92 toward Winter Haven. At least 20 cows died after collisions with oncoming vehicles, seven in the first car. Authorities noted nine separate accidents and said no motorists were injured. The cattle were later rounded up after daylight.

Senate delays action on Dodd censure resolution

Senate postponed for three weeks a vote on censuring Sen. Thomas J. Dodd after he asked for time to prepare a defense. The ethics panel accused him of diverting about 116000 in funds from testimonials for personal use and secondarily of travel expense claims. Dodd denied enriching himself.
