Lujan Warns of Inflation Cost from Government Spending

U S Representative Manuel Lujan Jr addressing the New Mexico State Jaycees Convention in Roswell warned that long running federal spending has bred inflation. He predicted price increases by 1978 and urged vetoes against further subsidies and excess outlays while criticizing Congress leadership for not curbing spending.

Dean says Nixon could have said more in Watergate speech

Ousted White House Counsel John W. Dean III told CBS that Nixon could have explained more in his April 30 Watergate address and would have looked better doing so. He declined to specify what disclosures were unsaid, saying details were not appropriate to discuss now. The remarks came as Senate Watergate hearings opened with Odle testimony and new probes into CIA involvement.

McCord says Clemency Offered From White House Ties

Watergate figure James W. McCord Jr testified that John J. Caulfield urged silence and claimed clemency and presidential support from the highest White House levels. McCord described meetings near the Potomac and at Key Biscayne, and said offers came from Caulfield and Fr. Howard Hunt, with Hunt’s wife and an unidentified call-seeker also involved. The White House denies any clemency role by Nixon.

County property sells very well in large delinquent tax sale

Tony S Armijo of the state property appraisal department announced that Chaves County completed one of its largest delinquent tax deed property sales. A total of 231 parcels brought about 55000 dollars, with a high bid of 10500 dollars by Carl Wilson of Carrizozo and the lowest at 10 dollars. The county will net about 44000 dollars after state costs, to be distributed like taxes. properties will return to the tax rolls and improvements are expected.
