About 50 students at West Las Vegas High School boycott classes to pressure all five school board members to resign. They seek state takeover and accuse the board of fund mismanagement, risking loss of state and federal funds and protesting staff firings.
In Santa Fe today 28 non emergency bills signed by Gov. Apodaca became effective. Measures include County and Municipal Gasoline Tax Act allowing up to two cents per gallon for Los Alamos and Albuquerque area transit, Special Hospital District Act authorizing county hospital districts, and a law making it a felony to use children in pornographic material.
Roswell recorded a high of 95 and a low of 58 on Tuesday. Normal highs today are 86 with a normal low of 51. Record highs reached 97 in 1974 and a record low of 43 in 1907.

Tubbs Fesler and Merrickson were arraigned in Magistrate Court on conspiracy forgery and passing fraudulent instruments after a plan to pass forged checks at Piggly Wiggly. Bond set at 7000 each. Tubbs listed as Texas fugitive. Additional thefts reported include pipe cutter, two shovels, and a stolen 1968 Cadillac at local sites.
Calvin E. Lane, 18, who vanished after saying he would apply for a job and visit his girlfriend, is believed dead as his body is found in a John Doe grave. His father Charles H. Lane, once told by authorities to stop searching, pursued leads for nine years, even traveling to Mexico and Canada.
