Richard Richardson is named as a commissioner by the United States Supreme Court in a designation briefing. The move places Richardson in a formal role within the high court's administrative or ceremonial framework.
In Washington on May 16 the Supreme Court denied Colorado’s motion to dismiss Kansas suit seeking to stop diversions of the Arkansas River for irrigation. Granville Richardson of Roswell New Mexico was appointed Commissioner to take testimony in the case.

J A Cooley and O E Cottrell surveyed Roswell for a gas plant to supply cooking heating lighting and power for engines. They report the Lowe Crude Oil gas system will produce 22 candle power 650 Btu per cubic foot and bright Welsbach burner light.
Coliseum hosts a big bowling match tonight pitting Minter's team against Johnson's team. Ed Johnson, who ran Carlsbad alleys, is en route to Chicago and this farewell game features a lineup including Minter Hinde Johnson Monroe Dr Taylor Cooper Johnson Davis Hinson Schlauder Purcell.
Will Henley, convicted at the last term for murder in the second degree and sentenced to six years in the penitentiary, was taken to Santa Fe Saturday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Henry Stoltz. He killed Robert Huff by striking him with a spade while working near stock yards.
Ed Johnson in charge of the Carlsbad alley arrived yesterday morning. Previously he ran the Coliseum Bowling alley in this city. The Carlsbad alley is owned by Joe F. Page. Johnson is regarded as a leading southwest bowler and a noted heartthrob among local ladies.
W F Greenwood private secretary to J J Hagerman returns from a month long trip to northern cities includes Chicago Milwaukee St Paul Minneapolis Duluth and Colorado Springs where he visited Percy Hagerman.
Dave Howell Cherley Ballard and Patrick Boone left Saturday afternoon for Socorro to serve as petit jurors in the United States court. Sheriff Fred Higgins and Deputy Thomas Davenport also traveled to attend as witnesses. Higgins was accompanied by his wife.

Springfield Tl May 16. Expectations rose that the governor race deadlock at the Republican state convention would break this afternoon. Reported coalition links between Governor Yates and State Attorney Deneen suggested Yates might gain 150 Deneen votes on the final ballot and if no winner emerged support would swing to Deneen.
Last week at the shooting gallery the Stetson hat contest ended in a tie between Lee Buck and O H Smith with Smith winning the shoot-off. Jerry Simpson easily won the Panama event with a score of 28, the week's lone high. Up next week a ten dollar suit for first place and a John B Stetson hat for second. Boys under 17 compete for a five dollar fishing outfit. O H Smith, who won prior weeks, is barred for two weeks.
Santa Cruz California May 16 The Democratic state convention opened with a recess until two this afternoon due to missing San Francisco delegates. Both Hearst and anti Hearst factions claim strength though no clear majority is evident. Prominent delegates named include Mayor M P Snyder Los Angeles Frank H Gould and J W Coleman San Francisco and R M Fitzgerald Alameda.
R. E. Lund of White Oaks plans to open a Roswell law office about June 1. Lund has eighteen years in White Oaks practice and is well known to old citizens. Also notice of Cape Jessamines and other cut flowers for commencement at Alameda Greenhouse.
