Egan urged priest to continue serving amid abuse cases
The Washington Post reports Cardinal Edward Egan, then head of Bridgeport, said he would not suspend a priest without full details amid abuse allegations. The 1997 lawsuit involved Frank Martinelli and Rev. Laurence Brett, later suspended, with Bridgeport settling claims totaling millions in 2001.
