New Mexico Military Institute To Graduate Record Cadet Class
The New Mexico Military Institute will graduate 140 cadets, the largest class in school history, at the 43rd annual ceremony on Tuesday morning. Diplomas will be presented by Governor John E. Miles, with Dr. E. L. Overholser delivering the address and cadet sergeant Charles Coleman Martin, Jr. giving the valedictory. The class includes 37 NM residents, 28 from Texas, and graduates from 21 states plus the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Canal Zone. Roswell’s eight graduates are listed among others from Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and more, with a roster continued on page six.

Three Injured In Highway Accident North Of Roswell
North of Roswell on the Vaughn highway a car carrying Mir and Mrs C H Barnett of Albuquerque and their 14 year old son Norman overturned after missing a slow sign near the Macho bridge. Mr Barnett suffered a broken collar bone while his wife had a broken arm and facial and back cuts. Norman had only minor facial cuts. They were taken to St Marys hospital. The driver, brother of J C Barnett Roswell airport manager, lost control as the bridge approach had a temporary repair after a washout.

State Guard Told To Be Ready For Any Flood Duty
Santa Fe May 10 Adjutant General R C Charlton was told by Governor John E Miles to have the new state guard ready for any duty if floods worsen. The highway department was asked to act quickly to combat flood effects. The governor held off declaring an emergency but said he would if needed. The soil conservation service offered aid via the state engineer’s office for Santa Fe and Middle Rio Grande HQ for Albuquerque. Acting state engineer W C Smith said the Rico Grande near Espanola was under control as CCC enrollees worked overnight to hold the river. Sandbag crews reinforced levees, and Riverside could flood if the river breaks the highway. The Rio Grande was 126 feet deep, up a half foot from yesterday. Only State Road 4 between San Ysidro and Jemez was reported washed out.
