Washington May 9 The navy said no reports confirm Japanese claims of a U S battleship or two aircraft carriers sunk in the Coral Sea victory. Earlier an unofficial tally listed 178 Japanese ships sunk damaged or fairly sunk by U S naval forces as of the engagement.

Lt Donald Mehihop son of Dex ter residents served as second in command on a United States submarine praised by Captain John Wilkes as one of the war’s seoperations.
