Nixon proposes disaster agency

President Nixon urged Congress to unite disaster activities under one federal agency to speed aid for flood and earthquake victims while transferring more recovery responsibility to states. The Disaster Preparedness and Assistance Act would standardize benefits, improve implementation, prevent misuse, and expand state and local roles with a $250 000 per state initial grant.

Guerrilla abducts Mexican consul freed after 76 hours

U S Consul General Terrance G Leonhardy was released unharmed after 76 hours in captivity by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of the People FRAP. Mexican authorities freed 30 prisoners and paid no ransom. Leonhardy thanked authorities and supporters and said he was grateful for the quick government action.

Fortuna Corp. sale links Sunland Park Downs owner to All-American Turf

Al Rosa of Kodiak Industries and Michael Coen of All-American Turf announce a tentative deal to sell Fortuna Corp. stock, giving All-American Turf control of Fortuna which owns Ruidoso Downs and Sunland Park Race Tracks in New Mexico.
