At Tuesday night’s meeting the Roswell School Board discussed problems in the district after-school program. Judy Stubbs of Child Care Resource and Referral said the 13 elementary schools with programs must be reduced to five locations for the 1994 95 school year.
Austin AP reports Lotto Texas drew numbers 5 23 24 26 34 47 for a Saturday Wednesday sequence with an estimated jackpot of 15 million dollars. The Texas Lottery lists these as the latest winning numbers and prize fund.
Palestinians marked a new era of self rule after 27 years of Israeli occupation as PLO police commanders arrived and prisoners were released. The Cairo signing outlined autonomy with unresolved issues and a rocky transition, while crowds in Gaza City and Jericho showed cautious optimism.
The EPA announced new two phase rules to cut emissions from small gasoline engines. By 2003, hydrocarbon emissions should drop about 32 percent and carbon monoxide 14 percent. The first phase begins August 1 1996 for new engines with a nominal $5 cost increase per tool.
In Des Moines the state agency running the governor’s mansion proposes renting the building for weddings, one event a month at 1000 dollars each. Critics call it tacky and worry about damage to antiques while supporters cite financial need and a 220000 dollar annual shortfall.
David Parsons, Republican candidate for District 59 state representative, says he would bring his business and civic experience to Santa Fe to represent the people. He advocates attracting new industry and improving infrastructure, including a four-lane highway to ease travel and connect communities. Parsons is a newcomer to politics and plans to highlight his plan on Page 7.
