Gallahadion won the Derby by two lengths before about 70 000. Bimelech led into the stretch but Gallahadion surged up the rail to win with Ditat second after a photo finish. Gallahadion’s time was 2 05 and midland finished fourth as the favorite faded.
State news reports two Maine oil equipment firms sue Midwest Refining Company of Dallas. hearing scheduled in Santa Fe before Judge Colin Neblett on Monday after earlier Carlsbad listing. Albuquerque dispatch notes UNM scholars Wesley Hurt Jr and Robert Spencer win American School of Research scholarships for anthropology. Hurt, 22, directs excavations at Quarai state monument near Mountainair.
Official New Mexico tourist host cards will be sent to 65 individuals in Roswell who attended all three sessions of the recent tourist school. The Chamber of Commerce will receive the list from Santa Fe and mail the placards to those entitled. The tourism effort was sponsored by the Chamber, the State Tourist Bureau, and the Department of Vocational Education.
Pittsburgh faces a man-hunt as police from Ohio and Pennsylvania pursue a serial killer blamed for more than twenty victims. Three dismembered bodies found in box cars near Pittsburgh link to earlier deaths in Cleveland Kingsbury Run and New Castle. Detectives traced the killer through Youngstown dispatches, marking a deadly trail along the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie line.

Larry French pitched eight strong innings denying the Giants a hit until late, while Carl Hubbell was touched for early runs. Reds edged Phillies 3 2 in Cincinnati on a wild pitch in the 11th. Beggs earned the win as Higbe took the loss. Brooklyn at Pittsburgh postponed due to cold.
Alfredo Tafoya of McCurdy won the shot put with 44 feet 11 inches as Jal led early in the state meet with seven top placers. Frank Carr of Alamogordo set a state 440 record at 51.1 seconds and won the 100 yard dash. Jal's Bill Zahn won the high hurdles.

O B Getz, Norwegian commander, issued an order declaring the fight in the district finished. Aftonbladet notes Norwegian resistance fading and difficulties in downing German planes due to armor.

Arnold presented photographic evidence to a senate appropriations subcommittee claiming United States Army Air Corps pilots achieved higher accuracy in precision bombing than European crews. Committee members said the pictures indicated a definite edge in marksmanship for American aviators over the wartime practice of pattern bombing.

A 205 to 175 vote upheld no changes, with Rep Dempsey opposing recommittal as the Hatch bill move gained momentum in the judiciary committee.

There is still time to complete the Roswell census with missed persons to be called by an enumerator if their names are telephoned to the Chamber of Commerce or the census office Monday. Claude Simpson, Chamber of Commerce secretary, said today.

The meeting was conducted by T P Cassidy of the Bureau of Entomology and described as very valuable.
