In District 59, Republican Greg Nibert seeks a second term while Libertarian Carl M. Swinney of Carrizozo challenges him after filing for the district. The race is among four New Mexico House contests in Chaves County with primaries June 5 and general election in November. Absentee voting runs from October 9. Nibert has served since 2016.

Warrant issued for Roswell man in beating case
An arrest warrant is issued for 27 year old Ivan Milles of Roswell who allegedly punched his girlfriend and threatened to kill her family if she called authorities. Milles faced charges of battery against a household member misdemeanor bribery of a witness a third degree felony and unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon a petty misdemeanor. He was arrested March 31 on a pre adjudication warrant and released on his own recognizance two days later.
