Roswell police report a second homicide in seven days after a woman in her 30s was found dead at a residence on North Montana Avenue around 8:30 a.m. The investigation includes interviewing witnesses while the victim's name is being withheld pending family notification.
The city agrees to pay 97000 in damages to brothers Joshua and Jeremy De Los Santos after police repeatedly arrested them for street preaching. The ACLU says charges were dropped or dismissed in each case and the settlement resolves a First Amendment dispute.
The Roswell city finance committee approved $2,187.50 for advertising the Rio Pecos Kennel Club AKC Dog Show on Sept. 9. Treas. Sarah Brinegar says the 50th annual event draws regional visitors who spend on hotels, gas, dining, and gifts, boosting the local economy.
Roswell will waive 100 percent of landfill dumping fees for demolitions from now through November 1 under the Clean and Safe program. Structures within city limits qualify, excluding furniture and fixtures. A demolition permit costs 5 dollars and asbestos must be abated before tearing down.

ENMU Roswell plans two commencement ceremonies at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center on May 9. The 5 p.m. session honors Certificates of Employability OT and Completion, plus New Mexico Youth Challenge candidates, while the 7 p.m. session covers associate degrees. About 160 in the first group and 200 in the second. Emery Stubbs Ponce, a candidate, will speak and hold two AA degrees. On May 8, ENMU-R adult education will host GED High School Completion at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center with a reception to follow.
