Nixon lawyers win six day extension in Watergate subpoena fight

U S District Judge Sirica gave Nixon’s lawyers six more days to fight a sweeping Watergate subpoena for 64 presidential conversations and related tapes. A May 8 hearing was set on the White House bid to quash the subpoena as executive privilege. The move comes after Nixon surrendered 1308 pages of transcript to the House Judiciary Committee.

Three Dead In Santa Fe Area Plane Crash

The Civil Air Patrol reported three men died when a rented Cessna 182 crashed on Rowe Mesa about 20 miles southeast of Santa Fe after departing Portales en route to Santa Fe. FAA identified pilot Mike Alexander of Santa Fe. two passengers unnamed. Severe thunderstorms accompanied the search by CAP units from Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Albuquerque. The wreckage was found near the Portales Santa Fe corridor. Post Aviation of Santa Fe owned the aircraft.

Experts to present Watergate tape gap report to Sirica

Two panel members who studied the 18 and a half minute gap in a Nixon White House tape will report to U S District Judge John J Sirica Saturday in his chambers. The panel's January finding cited erasing and rerecording but kept whether it was deliberate undecided.

Picketing by Chicano Welfare Rights over Lake Arthur custody case

About 20 members picketed the New Mexico Health and Social Services Department in Roswell over seven children removed from a Lake Arthur home. Nixon to Speak in Phoenix as Arizona GOP Rolls Out Welcome

President Nixon will address a 13,000 seat Veterans Memorial Coliseum crowd in Phoenix with Sen. Barry Goldwater as MC and Gov. Jack Williams among speakers. Couple Kidnapped Near Milan In Cross-State Search

State and local police hunted the Laguna area for two armed men who abducted Edward Lundquist 24 and Susan Lundquist 18 from the Liberty Motel in Milan New Mexico. The couple had moved from El Paso Texas recently and were held after registering at the motel. Lundquist said the men tied him up and left his wife in their car near Interstate 40. The robbery netted about 262 dollars. Police pursued a 1967 light blue MG with Texas plates. The manhunt involved Milan police New Mexico Rangers and a state police air unit.
