Soviet Union seeks U.S. role in European security system

Paris reports the Soviet Union proposed to the Western Allies that the United States be made a party to a European security system offered at Berlin and that the USSR join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In Indochina, French High Command says Vietminh losses totaled 1,350 killed at Dien Bien Phu as the fortified plain remains in French Union hands.

Stratofreighters Arrive at Walker Air Base

KC-97 Stratofreighters taxied to Walker Air Force Base to replace KB 29s in the 509th refueling squadron. A Walker crew ferried the 74 ton planes from Seattle, with more KC 97s on the way. The KC-97G combines cargo and refueling roles and is entering U S Army Air Forces service with SAC.

Four Men Die In Copper Mine Blast

Funeral services scheduled at 2 pm. tomorrow at the Methodist Church in Ruidoso for Ike N Wingfield 66 pioneer Lincoln county resident former three time mayor and first postmaster of Ruidoso who died Sunday in Phoenix. He was born in Ruidoso Oct 29 1887 and served as Forest Service fire warden and school board member. Burial at Old Angus cemetery follows services.

AEC Chairman Reports H-Bomb Feasibility and Tests

Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Lewis L. Strauss told a White House news conference that a hydrogen bomb large enough to wipe out any city now can be made.
