In Chicago s Little Italy a blast at the Joseph Weill Paper Co plant caused likely six deaths and many injuries as police consider gas leak or bombing amid a political feud in the Bloody Nineteenth ward. Torpedo cap found. windows shattered for a mile and Italian residents flee damaged homes.
New York telegram announces the death of naturalist John Burroughs on a train near Buffalo. He was returning from Pasadena to Poughkeepsie where he planned to meet him. he would have been 84 next month. Burroughs was a friend of Roosevelt and spent summers camping with Edison and Ford.
Prager Miller, a prominent sheepman of this city, was chosen to lead the New Mexico Wool Growers Association for the coming year. Roswell was selected as the meeting city for 1922, with dates to be set by the executive committee. All officers from the previous year were re-elected, including Vice President Manuel B. Otero and Secretary-Treasurer Bertha Benson of Albuquerque, plus the former executive board with additions to serve another year. The eighteenth annual convention, just concluded, was the most successful ever, with discussions on vital wool industry issues and several resolutions adopted to guide readjustment.

Roswell Rotary Club will convene Thursday at 12 15 at the Gilkeson Hotel replacing the Chamber of Commerce as the usual venue. The session will elect the board of directors for the coming year and serves as the last meeting before the Pueblo conference.
Announcements for the April Sales Day have been printed and mailed. The event on Monday April 11 features an auction sale for farmers and ranchers, special bargains for merchants, and an entertainment program to attract attendees. At the Kiwanis meeting, State Senator J. Smith Lea and State Representative Ewing L. Lusk spoke on the fifth state legislature, detailing bills passed and offering views on cooperation between elected officials and voters. The club deferred Haynes pool action and endorsed backing the American Legion musical numbers.
A vigilance committee clashed with a gambling and bootlegging ring in Dilton Okla at dusk. Ray Reynolds bystander and H E Fox cleanup squad member were fatally wounded as gunfire erupted on Main street near the Casher Hotel. The vigilantes began firing in an effort to enforce order and force undesirables to leave. More clashes were anticipated.
Dallas reports heavy frost damage to north Texas fruit, berries, and garden crops. Dallas County losses alone estimated at one hundred thousand dollars, according to fruit men.
Textarkana Texas March 29 The peach crop here one of the largest in the world is declared not seriously damaged by the frost of the last couple of nights.
George M. Gibbany died suddenly this morning at his son Ed S Gibbanys home in Roswell at 9 50 aged 84 years 10 days He was born March 19 1837 in Versailles Kentucky He had moved with his family from Albany Missouri to New Mexico in 1905 and will be shipped to Albany Missouri for funeral services led by Rev CC Hill The body will be taken to Albany with his sons Horton and Ed S Gibbany accompanying him One son Percy I Gibbany and a granddaughter Mrs Crafford E Poe reside in Missouri He had joined the Christian Church in Kentucky and retained membership in Newcastle Mo Funeral services are planned for tomorrow night at 730 at the Dilley parlors.

At the Charles de Bremond Post meeting, a telegram was sent to President Harding urging no clemency for Eugene V. Debs. The post also split the Adjutant and Finance Officer duties, electing J. P. Guinon as Adjutant and Ben Jaffa as Finance Officer. A boxing event for April 11 featuring John Connolly and Freddy Hill was announced.
Berlin March 28. German police drove three thousand communists from the Leuna works near Essen, killing a number of reds and taking a thousand prisoners. The communist uprisings have been crushed.
Retailers will hold their regular monthly meeting next Tuesday night at the Chamber of Commerce at 6 30. An interesting program has been arranged a program of a general nature. An announcement will be made about plans for Sales Day on Monday April 11.
Washington March 29 The White House announced the appointment of a committee to investigate the treatment wounded ex service men are receiving by the war risk bureau and the board of vocational training.
The record lists filings from March 18 to March 31 1921 including deeds and patent transfers. Names include Arthur B Davis Archie B Davis D W Crozier T A Cole and First National Bank of Rofts Oklahoma with parcels in Sec 4 Twp 4S R 24 East and other lots in Elk and Davissons Subdivisions. Amounts show several $1.00 and $250 to $2,000. A YMCA benefit event with reserved seats is noted amid procedural filings.
J Stuart Blackton, pioneer of the photoplay, arrives from America and aims to boost England's film industry by adding 2000 first class cinemas. He signs Lady Diana Cooper, daughter of the Duke of Rutland, as heroine for his first English play, with other society figures also to appear. He believes England’s historic backgrounds offer great movie potential.

In Chicago on March 29 W Jett Lauck told the U S labor board that inefficient railroad management costs the nation about a billion dollars yearly. He argued that with efficient management and proper credit labor costs would drop under national shop agreements. He accused management of exploiting a temporary downturn to erode the human standard in industry. In Washington on March 29 a cabinet meeting discussed government aid to railroad rehabilitation.
Governor Neff vetoed three additional measures in Austin on March 29, including a 200000 appropriation for an industrial training school for adult blind a land valuation bill and a proposal to create a new district court for Young Archer and Clay counties He argued Texas already has too many courts and some should be abolished.
In Constantinople on March 29 the American Navy acts as guardian to Crimean refugees in city hospitals. Hundreds have left the city while their families stay behind ill, with the Navy tracing all separated sick. The Russian summer embassy at Buyk-Dere is now a refugee hospital aided by the American Red Cross. Facilities are so inadequate that over half the patients in refugee hospitals sleep on the floor.
Gov. Boyle signed a bill allowing the use of lethal gas for executions in Carson City. Earlier condemned men faced the option of banging or being shot. Weather notes follow, including temperatures and forecasts for Roswell, Pecos Valley, and New Mexico, with general western weather conditions and a brief local ad segment.
Indianapolis March 29 The Board of Directors of the International Association of Rotary Clubs ordered a nationwide survey of conditions surrounding the care of disabled veterans to verify whether American Legion reports are based on hysteria or actual facts Chesley H Perry secretary general of Rotary said the 800 clubs will appoint committees to investigate conditions in their communities and report to Rotary headquarters in Chicago
Mrs. H F Fairbanks with her parents and Mr. Burger from Michigan visited Pine Lodge to discuss cottage arrangements. They reported seven inches of snow from the foothills to the lodge, good road conditions, road improvements, and plans to accommodate up to fifty guests after June first with ample provisions and saddle horses. Mail service and telephone access will affect quiet. The note suggests doctors and businessmen may still lack a retreat.
