Winds Cause Outages and Fires Across Lincoln County

Wes Reeves, a company spokesman, said power crews are working to restore service but gave no time frame. In Lincoln County two wildfires driven by winds burned near Glencoe and Capitan, with 260 acres and 300 acres affected. The Glencoe fire, 70 percent contained by 9:30 p.m., forced closures of U S 70 and damaged one abandoned residence and an outbuilding. The Capitan area fire, 60 percent contained, closed U S 380 toward Fort Stanton after burning about 300 acres, started by a downed power line. No evacuations were reported as winds eased from gusts up to 75 mph.
