Nervy hotelman foils stickup at Brown Palace

A nervy night manager at the Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver faced an armed robber last night. When the gunman demanded cash, F. S. Ringelheimer, 60, opened a drawer he knew was empty. The assailant fled after a tense stare-down.

Lt. Gov. Joseph M. Montoya Democrat heads a fast campaign swing through the Pecos Valley with a Roswell stop today as Tom Bolack Republican made earlier visits. Artesia's Alton Posey, a fireman off duty, used a predator call near Community of Hope NM to lure a Wiley fox. The fox approached within gun range, the fight ended with Posey sustaining a hand injury as the fox escaped, leaving the hunter humbled.

Service Station Holdup and Burglary in Roswell

A Roswell service station was held up last night with $58.73 taken after a gun was shown to attendant Tommy Flynn. A separate home burglary at 313 East Frazier Street targeted Maj. and Mrs. Sam Assimotos, with items including a movie camera, watches, binoculars, shirts, socks and underwear missing.

Soap Box Derby Clinics Scheduled For Four Nights

Soap Box Derby clinics announced by Derby director Joe Darnell will run Tuesday through Friday evenings at the Optimist Park clubhouse. Sessions cover racer-building details and entry rules, with Roswell and Carlsbad participants listed and five Carlsbad entrants noted. Blizzard Strikes the High Plains in Wide Sweep

Weekend blizzard paralyzed a 500 mile north south span and 300 mile cross area, hitting Nebraska Kansas Colorado Oklahoma Texas Panhandles and northeast New Mexico. At least four deaths reported. Oakley Kansas saw 14 inches of snow and 20 foot drifts near Cheyenne Wells Colorado. Winds up to 80 mph east Colorado and 74 mph west Kansas. About 7,500 motorists and travelers stranded, shelters used as transportation and communications collapse. Moisture ends drought in some areas while high winds blew snow off others.
