Joy Center Roswell hosts teen and adult writing group
The J O Y Center in Roswell runs a weekly writers group each Wednesday from 3 30 to 5 30 pm. The 16 year old program began in 1999 as a 50 plus group and welcomes younger members. With 14 members including Joyce McCollaum a founding author the group covers poetry science fiction memoirs and historical fantasy. There is no cost to join though members must share work and participate in discussions. Workshops in summer and readings in winter supplement regular meetings described as a writing boot camp by Eva McCollaum Joyce's daughter.

NM Senate approves two tier driver license bill
The New Mexico Senate backed a two tier driving permit plan with one federally compliant license and another non compliant option. The 35 to 5 vote reflected a compromise spearheaded by Sens. Stuart Ingle and John Arthur Smith. House action appeared unlikely as session ends.

Fire destroys shed on West McGaffey Street
A storage shed behind a residence at 315/2 W. McGaffey St. burned Friday morning while occupants were away. Reported at 10 43 a.m. and extinguished by 11 59 a.m. Deputy Fire Marshal Matt Miller said four trucks from Stations 1 2 and 5 responded. The cause remains under investigation. The shed held tires and an inactive missile owned by Manuel Sanchez.

Third Suspect Arrested in March Fake Robbery Case
Marcus Boyd 23 turned himself in after Joshua Fitisemann 25 and Felicia Mejia 21 were already in custody over a March 11 fake robbery at Russell Cellular Verizon downtown. Fitisemann allegedly stole over 14700 in cash and phones and faces embezzlement false reporting and conspiracy charges. Mejia and Boyd face false charges as well.
