Cheney vows to keep extremists from returning to power in Afghanistan
Vice President Dick Cheney told troops at Bagram Air Base that the United States and NATO will not allow extremists to bully their way back into power in Afghanistan. He urged stronger NATO combat support, citing 8000 deaths last year and the surge of Taliban and al Qaeda regroupment in the south. He noted U.S. troop increases to about 32,000 by late summer and urged European allies to boost their commitment.
