State Tax Commissioner outlines bills for special session
Santa Fe March 21 AP By ron O Beall chief state tax commissioner said today he would have his share of bills ready for submission to the special session of the legislature He was allotted a tax collection law revision of the income tax law and a memorial to congress on the sales tax Reductions will be eliminated in part and clarified throughout in the income tax law amendments He said he had not heard of the movement under way to strike the income tax law off the books This report he said might be general but it has not come to his attention There likely will be an increase in the income tax rate Preliminary said the federal tax is four percent but it was considered a good guess the state tax rate might be increased to two percent but not to four although otherwise the law might be patterned more after the federal tax law The new tax collection law is being worked out Beall said but he was not prepared to release any information It will replace SB144 the property sale law which raised such a furor last year There now is before congress a bill which would permit states to levy a sales tax against products and material shipped into the state for local use or consumption It exempts interstate shipments But permits the tax on interstate shipments at their destination Beall is preparing a memorial supporting this congressional measure to submit to the 12th session for approval or disapproval.
