Albuquerque on March 16 AP seven banks in New Mexico stayed closed due to failure to receive authorization from Washington or the state bank examiner. Five national banks and two state banks closed including First National Bank Artesia Albuquerque Las Cruces Gallup and Burg plus First Savings and Trust Albuquerque Merchants State Bank Gallup. Police guarded Albuquerque National Bank as deposits rose and post office funds were moved.
Rotary members enjoyed a varied musical program featuring Roswell and Military Institute performers. Miss Harriett Poorbaugh sang, James Morris played piano, Mrs. John C. Santa Fe March 16 AP seven more enactments of the eleventh legislature have become law. The governor signed seven labor related bills now filed with the secretary of state. Bills include eight hour day for female and male employees and public printing contracts to New Mexico. Other measures cover state board of barber examiners and reports of the state labor commissioner and meetings of the state labor and industrial commission. An eight hour day provision applies in public offices.
