In Chicago on March 16, official reports show only modest interest in the forthcoming referendum on prohibition. About 440,000 voters have registered, roughly 11,000 more than previously recorded, signaling growing but cautious participation in the pivotal decision.
Washington March 16. Closing arguments were made in the dissolution of the Standard Oil Company before the U S Supreme Court. Officials expect a decision by May 1. Y J Watson of Pittsburg and John G Johnson of Philadelphia for Standard Oil, Attorney General Wickersham for the government presented the case.
Full returns show the $25,000 bond issue for Rothwell High School passing by about ten to one. Ward results vary from 38 to 122 in support, totaling 507 for and 53 against, with an additional roughly $7,000 surplus and a planned $50,000 building top floor unfinished awaiting future funds.
El Paso reports a Washington proposal to cede San Eligario island on the Rio Grande to Mexico in exchange for relinquishing claims to the Chamizal zone. The island contains thousands of acres held by Americans and was deemed American by the boundary commission in 1897. The Chamizal area includes southern El Paso with about 5,000 residents and a value around 5 million dollars.
C. W. Ditmore known as Neely Ditmore died at 12 15 today at his brother in law Fred Higgins home 401 North Virginia Ave after a five or six month illness beginning with a paralytic stroke while working at the Hagerman ranch.
L. Ditmore, 53, formerly of Murray Texas, died after a lung illness developed into heart failure. He lived on a cow ranch near Roswell and worked there while his family stayed on the ranch. He leaves a wife and several children, with funeral services set for tomorrow at 2 PM from Fred Higgins home, Rev P T Rawsey to officiate, burial in South Side cemetery.
Otto Bauener Fred C Hunt C J Leland Ross Malone and Walter T Payvlor act as officers and form a committee to solicit funds for the new Roswell Amusement Association. The group conducted solicitation efforts today aiming to support their local program.

Daytona Florida March 16 The physicians attending Senator John W Daniel of Virginia say there is no change in the patient condition this morning after a stroke of paralysis.

Sheep receipts 6000, market strong. muttons 6.75 to 8.15, lambs 8.50 to 9.85, fed western wethers and yearlings 7.25 to 8.00, fed western ewes 6.75 to 7.75.

He questions current laws on coal, oil, gas, and hydro power, urging reforms to prevent waste and monopolization while preserving national interests.
Washington reports Taft's automobile narrowly missed a woman while heading to the station for the third time this morning. The car stopped in time, then nearly struck a trolley car as it resumed. Taft leaves for Chicago to attend the St Patrick's Day banquet. From Chicago he will visit Rochester Albany New Haven Providence and return to Washington on March 23.
Carlsbad delegation returning from Portales reports Judge Pope’s ruling in the case of C. W. Merchant and Sons against Alston Brothers requiring the merchants to share their east Eddy county range with sheep breeders. The decision limits roaming sheep within a half mile of watering places.

Wool market report from St Louis dated March 16 shows unchanged prices across territory and western mediums. Fine mediums range from 19 to 24 dollars, and fine low grades 11 to 20 dollars, with higher grades at 24 to 27 dollars.
Las Vegas March 13. A late report from Santa Fe hospital says brakeman John Donnelly who fell from a high trestle near Shoemaker station Friday night dislocated his spine. He is recovering after an operation and the surgeon says he has a fighting chance for his life as he rallies.
New York March 16. The dwelling of the late Samuel Sloan on West Seventeenth Street was sold at auction today. Sloan, famed for opposing Sunday labor, amassed wealth mainly from railroads and served as president of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western, yet he never allowed the line to operate on Sundays.

The Roosevelts visited Omdurman near Khartoum on March 16, touring the Khalif's house, Mahdi's tomb, and the tomb of Robert Howard. Colonel Roosevelt met many residents and rode with a camel corps ahead, later traveling in a dog cart while Mrs. Roosevelt observed local sights.
