Liquor license delayed by council meeting shuffle

The American Legion's liquor license request was pulled from Thursday's City Council agenda and may be reconsidered at the April meeting. The state license had preliminary approval, with final approval pending a public hearing. Meantime, council moved to amend the Clean Air Ordinance to ban electronic smoking devices in public places, with a public hearing set for April.

Jury Unable to Reach Verdict in Cordoba Lopez Homicide Trial

After nearly three hours of deliberation a New Mexico jury could not decide on two counts of homicide by vehicle in the deaths of Mandy Miranda and her son Joe Albaraz Ill. Cordoba Lopez was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and speeding. The 2012 crash at Brasher Road and SE Main Street involved a 2007 Cadillac Escalade and a blue Hyundai Sonata. Autopsies cited multiple fractures and major organ damage with punctured aortas. The medical examiner ruled death accidental.

Leadership change at WIPP amid radiation incident probe

Odessa man tied to Roswell clash drags officer

Brian Rudloff 36 was apprehended in Odessa in the 6800 block of Golder. The Roswell incident left an officer dragged 30 feet while two patrol units collided as backup arrived. The dragged officer and the two officers in the crash sustained non life threatening injuries.

High risk health pool rates to rise 24 percent in New Mexico

The New Mexico high risk health pool will raise premiums by about 24 percent starting July 1 as enrollments shrink and costs align with other market products. The pool, created in 1987 and run by Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, has 8,300 enrollees, down from 10,000, with insurers under the federal health care law expanding coverage to previously uninsurable individuals.
