Ankiel Elbow Woes Sideline Opening Day Hopes
Rick Ankiel will miss at least a week due to elbow tendinitis after a rough spring start. Manager Tony La Russa outlined a cautious plan to test his throwing by simulated and live batters as the Cardinals assess his readiness for the season. Meanwhile Montreal acquired Chris Truby from Houston and Geoff Blum, with Tatis sidelined by knee surgery, while Ruben Rivera faced release by the Yankees after a locker-room theft allegation. Cubs and Shaw negotiations paused as closer duties shift with Gordon injured.
