Guard Officers Promoted and Transferred at 120th AAA Battalion

Lt Col Frank G. Young Jr announced promotions and transfers in the 120th AAA Gun Battalion Roswell. Second Lt James Williams becomes first lieutenant. Warrant Officers Lowry A. Rigsby and William H. Suggs promoted to chief warrant officer. New command and staff moves include Lt Rowland L. Tessier Jr taking command of B Battery and Lt John T. Hall assuming Headquarters Battery command. The unit prepares for an inspector general visit April 5 to 13 to review training and readiness for air defense.

Dust Blame Sought In Auto Fire After Crash Near Roswell

Strong dust winds and static electricity are linked to a fire that destroyed a 1951 Plymouth after a two vehicle collision on U S Highway 70 six miles northeast of Roswell. Both drivers were shaken but uninjured. The day saw wind gusts up to 60 mph and additional minor fire alarms around town.

A Sinclair Oil Barber No. 13 gas well near Monument ten miles southeast of Hobbs ignited at 8:45 pm. Millioan Drilling Co. crews fought the blaze as Halliburton Cementing Co. equipment burned. Winds up to 62 mph hampered firefighting. the flame volume could supply a city of 350 000 daily.

Bicycle Tricycle Crash Sparks 26 000 Dollar Suit

In Los Angeles a judge weighs a 26 023.98 dollar damage suit filed by 8 year old Jack Chase of Surbank against 11 year old Bobby Ritter of Sun Valley over a July 23 1952 bicycle tricycle collision. Jack says he was steering on the sidewalk when Ritter plowed into him fracturing his leg. Ritter recalls shouting to avoid collision as they slowed near a peach tree. The neighbors were formerly friends and the suit is brought by Jack's parents Mr and Mrs Charles Chase.

Death of EGP farmhand probed after autopsy

County officers investigate the death of Pedro Garza Lopez at the Roy D. Gaylor farm near East Grand Plains. An autopsy is done and an inquest is pending after Lopez died following illness reported after drinking with Angel Herrera who was treated and released.
