Santa Fe March 10 AP The house voted 17 to 23 to kill house bill 274 a one percent sales tax backed by the Federation of Taxpayers Association The bill had been dragged from the taxation and revenue committee by Rep Orlando Olivarri after repeated moves and debate opponents described it as unjust and a burden on the poor while supporters argued it was a fair revenue measure The session ran from yesterday morning until the early hours of today with further amendments and opposition noted by Rep Greaser and Rep Howard among others

Banks May Be Opened on Monday

Green Returned to Roswell on Forgery Charge
Deputy sheriff Dude Peck returned Earl Green to Roswell from the Springer state reform school yesterday. Green had been sent there for forgery but evidence showed he was 24, making him ineligible for reform school.
