Telephone threat against McCarthy at Waldorf Astoria

An anonymous caller with a Spanish accent warned at 12:15 a.m. that something terrible would happen to Sen. McCarthy at the Waldorf Astoria. McCarthy, in New York with his wife, stayed overnight as guards and police monitored the threat and planned a meeting with Senate investigators.

Phony Colonel Pleads Guilty to Check Count Here

James H. Jordan a 33 year old Floridan who posed as an Air Force lieutenant colonel pled guilty today to two counts of a worthless check in Roswell. The $40 check drawn on American National Bank of Jacksonville was passed at McNally Hall Motor Co. Bond set at $1000 and he was bound over to district court. Jordan was arrested in Hobbs and says he passed worthless checks in Carlsbad Fort Worth Dallas and Jackson Mississippi.

Roswell School Band Announces Spring Concert Date

The Roswell School Band will perform the annual spring concert on Tuesday March 30 at 7 30 p m in the Junior High School auditorium. Ticket sales are a joint Senior and Junior High School PTA project with leaders Mrs George Drew and Mrs A N Etz backing the effort. Band members will also canvass houses to sell tickets with tickets available at Woodrow Cameron's office and at the director's office.

Spreckels Marriage Lasted 34 Days

Adolph B. Spreckels Jr. filed for divorce from Judith Powell after a 34 day marriage. The complaint cites cruelty and notes they wed January 31 in Las Vegas and separated the following week. Spreckels has a prior divorce from Kay Williams in 1952 and previous assault convictions are mentioned.

Flood Control Projects Recommended for Pecos Basin

U S Army Engineers favor four flood control schemes along the Pecos River and its tributaries in Texas and New Mexico.
